Alternative Fuels Complaints

Alternative fuels regulated by the Alternative Fuels Safety (AFS) are Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LP-Gas, LPG) commonly referred to as propane or butane, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Companies installing, transporting, dispensing and selling alternative fuels must be licensed with the Commission. The individuals performing activities with alternative fuels must be certified by the Commission. All alternative fuel installations must be installed in accordance with the Commission rules and are subject to the requirements of state of Texas statutes. For specific requirements please go to the Commission’s Alternative Fuels Regulations webpage for the appropriate fuel type.

A person may report noncompliance with any licensing or certification requirements and any unsafe installations. You will need to specify which rule or statute the complaint involves. For noncompliance activities, you will also need to provide when and where the activity occurred and who is involved in the activity. For unsafe installations, in addition to the rule or statute involved you will need to provide the name of the person owning or operating the installation, the location of the installation, the name of the company installing/servicing the installation, if known, and when the unsafe condition was observed.

All investigations into rule violations are subject to open records requests. Therefore, anonymous reports can only be made by phone at the number posted below.

Alternative Fuels Safety is not authorized by the Legislature to regulate customer service issues, business practices, or price gouging.
Please do not submit complaints regarding these issues. (For propane distribution pricing complaints please see the Commission's Gas Services complaint process)
