Pipeline Safety Advisory Bulletin: Wick-Type Farm Tap Malodorant Concentration Tests

October 13, 2015

The Pipeline Safety Department of the Railroad Commission of Texas (Commission) reminds operators of the requirements of 16 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §8.215, amended effective October 6, 2014, that require malodorant concentration tests of wick-type farm tap odorizers at least once each calendar year, not to exceed an interval of 15 months.

The tests must be performed with an instrument capable of determining the percentage of gas in the air at which the odor becomes readily detectable. The results of the tests are required to be recorded and retained by an operator for at least two years.

Also note, that 16 TAC §8.215(e)(2) was amended to state that wick-type farm tap odorizers are exempt from the odorizers equipment reporting requirements of 16 TAC §8.215(e)(1)(B) regarding recording the malodorant concentration meter make, model and serial number.
